Weekend in Review

Saturday Adam had a 9am breakfast meeting and I got to sleep in. I slept until sometime around 11 and quite honestly, I don't really remember how we spent the first half of the day. I think Adam went swimming. Jeez, that must have been some hangover! Anyway, later in the afternoon we cleaned up the house and put the new rugs down that I got for my birthday. I dug through the change in my giant Coca-Cola bottle bank and separated the "silver" from the pennies. We were getting ready to head to my cousin's house to play cards. My family always plays for cash, we don't screw around!

Adam was close in his prediction when we got there that everyone would spend an hour taking pictures of my cousin's baby before we played cards. It was actually more like two hours. Some of it though was spent jerking around with birthday cake and ice cream for my cousin David's birthday. He's up here to visit from Tennessee.

Adam and I were NOT looking to donate our money to ANYONE Saturday night. We definately wanted to come home having more money or breaking even. I think we did end up donating a little, but we had fun, none-the-less.

Sunday Adam and I got groceries and then he worked with my brother-in-law out at his house. I piddled around the house. I went to bed around 7 because I had to work Sunday night. Got up around 9 to hang out with Adam for an hour before I left since he left really early this morning to go back to work. My sister kept the kids overnight and then took them to my dad's in the morning. I picked them up after a couple hours of sleep this morning and we all hung out and had a nice afternoon and evening. Blake was a little ornery, but nothing unusual.

Right now it's 11:50pm and I've been listening to our drunk neighbor lady fight with her kids for the last 45 minutes or so. I called the police about 10 minutes ago because it's starting to get a little rowdy. She drinks all the time and has 2 teenage kids. From what I can hear, and at this point I can hear almost every word, they've taken her keys and wont give them back. I really hope the cops get here soon. She's starting to get violent. My walls are shaking cuz she's pounding on them. Hopefully with her fist, and not a child. I wish Adam was here...
Tomorrow I'm going to take the kids to the Family Museum for a little play time. They don't know it yet. Should be a nice day.

Friday's Homecoming

Ahhh, Friday. Friday Adam came home. Whoohooo! Friday started out sort of weird. I went to bed Thursday night sooooo exhausted from the day. I really think as soon as I laid down I fell asleep because I don't remember looking around the room, adjusting my pillow or having any last thoughts for the day. I just remember straightening the comforter, turning off the light and setting the alarm for 7:15. That's it. Until 3:15am. At exactly 3:15 I woke up and looked at the clock. All of the sudden I thought I was supposed to be at work. It was like my body knew I had to work soon but my mind just could not figure out what time. I really thought I was supposed to be working 3rd shift at that moment. I sat straight up in bed and thought, "Why the hell didn't anyone from work call me??" I mean here it was, like almost 4.5 hours after my shift would have started. Then I thought maybe my alarm clock had the wrong time so I went in the bathroom. I have a clock in the shower. Same time. So I stopped. I wanted to collect my thoughts. Then I realized, I didn't have to work 3rd shift, I'm working 1st shift on Friday. Jesus. I don't have to be to work until 8:30 and I can get 4 more hours of sleep. I was so relieved. I got back in bed and fell right back to sleep.

A thunderstorm rolled in sometime after that with some pretty loud thunder. The first loud one half woke me up and I heard Emily wake up and run into my room and fling herself on my bed.

"Storm scare you, Emily?"

"Yes."

Got up for real at 7:15 and got ready for work. Helped my dad put his Tet socks on again and headed out the door. Stole rock star parking in a lot I'm not supposed to be parking in as an employee on 1st shift, but I didn't care. When I got to work our lead and another girl were there talking about Holidays. Our lead said she scheduled me for Labor Day, 2nd shift unless she finds someone to hire for PT 2nd shift. (Our last girl literally went crazy and works in a different department now, where she's gone equally as crazy) I wish now I would have had the wits about me to ask how many holidays that put me up to because we're each only supposed to have to work 4. That would be less if our lead would work some holidays but she doesn't do that or weekends. In fact, she barely does her 40 hours a week M-F. Case in point came at 11:00 when she left to "take her kids some lunch". She never came back and she wasn't scheduled to be off work until 3:30. Thanks a lot. I had already figured she was going to do that when I was thinking about work the night before. I was trying to think of who would be working with me and I figured she would either not be there because it's Friday, or she would leave early. Next week she's taking an "Office Day" on Thursday the 3rd because, of course, Friday she's off for the holiday. Tell me, how exactly does the lead of the switchboard take an "Office Day"???? We don't get to forward calls to her and I can't imagine there SO MUCH paperwork to do that she can't get it done while she's at the office. As it is when she's there she turns off her phone and doesn't answer calls whenever she feels like it. Anyway, sorry. That's enough of my ranting. What comes around goes around and someday she'll get what's coming to her.

Her leaving early did something good for me, it got me off a half-hour early because I couldn't take a lunch. That was cool with me. Adam called me at work around 2:15 to say he was off early and heading home because of storms in the area where he was working. He got home not too long before I did. After I got home Adam had showered and changed and we went out to dinner at a Chinese Buffet. That was nice because we didn't have the kids with us. Don't take that the wrong way because as much as you love them and love being with them, the occasional dinner out without them is Heaven, trust me! After dinner we came home and I showered, changed and we went to karaoke at The Paddlewheel. I had way, way....WAY too many shots and Adam ABSOLUTELY rocked the house. I really think he was the house favorite and sang the best of anyone there. We came home late and I saw that our neighbors were up partying. I really, really wanted to knock on the door but Adam insisted I didn't because they're "just a bunch of high school kids."

"So? I like high school kids!"

Pretty sure sober Amy wouldn't have said that. Again, I passed out when I hit the pillow and slept like a baby until 11am where I'm now suffering from a headache, stomachache and general blah-ness. We're supposed to go to my cousin's to play cards at 7:00. Ugh!

You Say It's My Birthday! It's My Birthday Too, Yeah....Oh, I Already Said That...

So, I turned 34 today. 34. It doesn't even sound right when I say it. 34. WTF, man?? My day started out ok. I got home from work and got a couple hours of sleep. Went across the hall to pick up the kids. I'm pretty certain they were happy to get rid of Blake. When I asked if he was good or a maniac she didn't even play it off like he was good even though he wasn't. You know the standard, "Oh no! He was great!" She said, "Eh, a little of both." Great. I made lunch for me and the kids (PB&J and chips) and I spent the afternoon yelling at Blake. Called my sister and made arrangements for all of us to have dinner at my fave Mexican restaurant, Adolph's.

Stopped at the hardware store before we went to the restaurant to have 2 house keys made. One for my dad and one for the sitter. Since they had the funky key blanks, you know the decorative kind, got two of those and will give the plain ones out to dad and the sitter. For myself I chose the leopard print key, for Adam a green one with monkeys all over it.

Went to the restaurant. My cousin, her daughter and her baby were supposed to already be there but weren't. The oldest of the three called a few minutes later to say her and the second oldest were fighting and they wouldn't be able to come. I wont get into details of what the second oldest was yelling to her mom in the background but let me just say that if MY daughter EVER talks to me like that, she'll be hoofing it on the side of the highway. Jesus take the wheel because I'm about to knock the shit out of my kid!

Had a great dinner and then it was present time. You'll remember my sister took Emily shopping on Tuesday for my present. Well, she decided I needed a shirt. It's a really cute girly polo-type grey shirt with snaps and what looks like a peek of a white lacy tank underneath and puff sleeves. She also decided I needed rugs. Which was funny, but they'll match the rug I already have in the kitchen. I plan to put one in front of the fridge and one in front of the center island. Then, she got me a big area rug to match those to go under my kitchen table. I can't wait to put it under the table and see how it looks. My sister got me a really cute purple and green "COCKTAILS" sign to go by the wet bar. It has a big martini glass on it. She and my dad also got me $100 combined, which will pay my babysitter bill this week. Ugh. I'd really rather spend it on a new bra since I broke the strap on one of mine (the one of two I own) and a new swimming suit since the bra on mine has absolutely had it. In fact, I don't even think you can call it a bra in there anymore. More like a lazy piece of fabric.

The kids picked out THE most awesome birthday card EVER for me. It probably set my sister back close to $10 but it's AWESOME. If you're ever near a Hallmark display, please keep your eye out for it. It's a wind-up card. It has a little handle in the bottom right corner that you crank and while you do that it plays Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones. It's a song you'd probably recognize from Austin Powers. While that's playing there is cut out pics of a swinging 60's party going on with people dancing, dancing with lampshades on their head and swinging from chandeliers. The act of you turning the crank makes them move. Seriously, you can't help but wish you were at this party. If you've ever seen "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (my fave movie of all time) it'll remind you of the party scene in that movie. Awesome card.

After we came home I tried picking up the house a bit and Blake was awful. He even got a spanking and laughed the whole time. I put a couple loads of clothes away and Emily helped. Can't say enough about how much Emily stepped up this week and helped me. She really deserves something special when payday rolls around. I had to wash another load of Blake's clothes because since Tuesday he's gone through every single pair of underwear he owns except for one. That's probably about 10 pair. Packed the kid's clothes since they're going to my sister's house for the weekend and they'll be gone by the time I get home tomorrow. By the time the kids went to bed tonight it was after 10 and I was exhausted. I watched a little TV and went to bed. Welcome to 34. Sooooo glad Adam will be home tomorrow night.
